“The California Department of Justice’s 2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal went live on Monday with publicly-accessible files that include identifying information for those who have concealed carry permits. The leaked information includes the person’s full name, race, home address, date of birth, and date their permit was issued. The data also shows the type of permit issued, indicating if the permit holder is a member of law enforcement or a judge.”
This will have a chilling effect on people getting permits which was probably intended.
It’s also why one should be wary about getting on any kind of government list. I had clients that didn’t want to get a medical marijuana card in Montana because they would be on a list. Considering the fact that both Hawaii and California used the medical marijuana card holder lists to deny people the right to possess a firearm, that wariness is the proper response. Now all these people have their names and addresses readily assessable in California. This would not be the first time a government has used lists of registered firearms in bad faith.
I don’t know if it will make people targets for individuals that want to get their hands on a firearm, or the opposite and that those people not on the list will be seen as softer targets.
