Whether you are a believer or not, churches used to be a central pillar in aiding the poor, the suffering and those in need. Something that helps with social cohesion and community in ways that the welfare state does not. Here is an article where the government is threatening a couple churches because they’re providing meals to the poor, hungry and destitute as well as counseling.
